Electronic swinghandle protects sensitive data

An electronic swinghandle, for data center enclosures will assist organizations with safeguarding sensitive data such as company information and personal data.

DIRAK, a global innovator in latches, locks, handles and hinges, offers the E-Line system, an electronic swinghandle, for data center enclosures that will assist organizations with safeguarding sensitive data such as company information, personal data and medical records. The E-LINE system meets the need to monitor and control access to data center enclosures and other related cabinets that house sensitive data, helping health care organizations obtain HIPAA compliance. The E-Line system is a swinghandle that is integrated with high end software which allows you to grant access or revoke access from a remote location to one, a few or hundreds of handles at the same time.

It is an access control and monitoring system that offers the user the ability to know who, what, when and where with real-time data and endless historical data.

In applications where protecting data is critical, the E-Line system provides the type of security that will give IT professionals peace of mind.

The E-Line system not only allows you to control and monitor with real-time data who has access to sensitive data, but it also provides a historical audit trail for traceability purposes.

The flexibility of the E-LINE system offers the same benefits for single, stand-alone applications, large datacenters or cabinets that are distributed geographically.

As part of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), health-care providers, health plans, and payment clearinghouses are now required to protect electronic health information.

The HIPAA Privacy Rule is the first of its kind to create national standards to protect individual medical records and other personal health information.

Safeguards are required and there are boundaries for the use and release of medical information.

Non-compliance results in violators being held accountable, which can include civil and criminal penalties.

The E-LINE system offers numerous benefits to those individuals and organizations which are mandated under HIPAA.

Work platforms assembled/disassembled flexibly

To realise a safe production environment to build and assemble satellites, traditional scaffolding was cumbersome, but a work platform system allows assembly into any size or shape.

Astrium has to implement a multi-purpose work platform system that must meet their strict safety regulations and provide a safe environment to produce satellites. Traditional scaffolding is too heavy and cumbersome, while aluminium towers do not meet their requirements, as each project is different. Lobo Systems' safe and secure platform product.

The unique and patented clamp allows the system to be assembled with out the use of tools into any size or shape.

This allows Astrium engineers to attach a guardrail at any point on the system.

This means personnel are not exposed to the risk of a fall during assembly, thereby meeting the safety rules.

* Benefits - by attaching a guardrail from a lower level, before it is needed, ensures a safe system is built.

This unique versatility of the Lobo System brings a safe working procedure to EADS Astrium.

The Lobo System also brings cost reduction, enhanced efficiency and performance as engineers can build their own platforms at any time, with constantly changing requirements.

The Lobo System creates a safe working environment, which increases productivity and maximizes the return on investment.

Tension spring offers force range of 100-3500N

Tension springs have an inner body made from stainless steel to provide superior corrosion resistance and longer life and features end fittings with common threads at both ends.

Leading gas spring manufacturer Industrial Gas Springs has launched a new range of tension springs. Fixed force units which typically have a rod and an inner and outer cylinder to achieve the desired axial force, they are not equipped with a release valve or damping. The fully pressurised cylinder design provides a tension force by means of an inner body construction which works in reverse to that of a typical compression gas spring.

The P1 force of a tension spring is measured at 5mm from its fully closed position.

This is nominally the springs normal 'at rest' condition under no load.

A tension spring still has a compression ratio or K factor, this being the ratio between the P1 and P2 forces.

(P2/P1).

The P2 force for a tension spring is defined as the force of the spring, measured 5mm from full extension.

The new range of tension springs are typically supplied with a K factor of 1.3 to 1.6 with a force range of 100-1500N, although up to 3500N variants will be available.

The inner body is made from stainless steel to provide superior corrosion resistance and longer life.

The range features end fittings (eye, ball joint, clevis) with common threads at both ends; ball joints are recommended to prevent side load forces being exerted on the unit during operation.

A minimum of 3mm of rod is exposed outside the tension gas spring to clearly show which the rod end is, to enable installation in 'rod down' configuration.

This is necessary to keep the main seal lubricated by the oil within the spring to prevent it from drying out.

The standard tension gas spring range comprises sizes 6-14 rod diameter and force range of 100-3500N.

The 'pulling' action of the tension springs, as opposed to 'pushing' with a compression spring, makes them suitable for lid-type applications where access is restricted such as vehicle ramps and food processing equipment.

'Jubilee' clip workshop pack saves time

The re-usable plastic 'Jubilee' Workshop Pack contains 143 assorted mild steel zinc plated worm drive hose clips, ranging in size from 9.5mm up to 40mm.

Throughout the world there is an infinite variety of uses and users of Jubilee clips and many of these clips can be found in workshops and maintenance environments. Because of this Jubilee recognised the need for a useful selection pack designed specifically for such environments and named it the Jubilee Workshop Pack. The re-usable plastic Jubilee Workshop Pack contains 143 assorted mild steel zinc plated worm drive hose clips, ranging in size from 9.5mm up to 40mm and has proved invaluable in numerous circumstances where a Jubilee clip has been needed to come to the rescue.

Luckily, Team Mongol Shoebox were donated a Workshop Pack by L Robinson and Company, the manufacturers of premium brand Jubilee clips, to carry in their toolbox during their 8,000 mile round trip to Mongolia and back.

The team was taking part in the 2006 Mongol Rally event to raise money for many varied charities.

Driving a slightly venerable and well-used Suzuki SJ410, which chose to break down in deepest Siberia, miles from anywhere or anybody, the two team members had a major problem.

An ingenious and unusual use of several Jubilee clips selected from the Workshop Pack saved the day.

The breakdown occurred when half of the outer collar of the water pump bearing snapped off preventing the fan belt from staying in place.

Several Jubilee Clips were undone and then rejoined together to form a number of worm drive housings around the missing section of the outer collar.

By utilising the clips in this way, the team were able to drive out of trouble and the required 100 miles to the safety of the nearest town.

The couple in the team also became engaged during the trip and once again a Jubilee Clip came to the rescue serving as an engagement ring.

Jubilee designed the Workshop Pack to cover those occasions where various sizes of quality hose clips may be required for one or more simultaneous applications - or when the unexpected may occur.

Low cost hinges for enclosures

Many specialist enclosures are special because of size, shape, material gauge or some other factor that cannot be adequately accommodated from ex-stock suppliers.

Many specialist enclosures are special because of size, shape, material gauge or some other factor that cannot be adequately accommodated from ex-stock suppliers. Nonetheless, special need not be complex or sophisticated and there are many virtues in the simple low cost and robust approach. This is exemplified in the selection of hinges offered by EMKA (UK) under the heading 'fixed' which covers all those with fixed hinge pins where door removal is not required.

High quality, high strength engineering ensures that they carry out a frequently arduous function at optimum cost.

The programme of 'fixed' hinges offered by EMKA feature a selection of styles, for example there are flush types, screw-on or bolt-on ones, butt hinges or three part types with a floating pivot pin.

These latter offer internal fixing for lay-on prominent doors and there are similar versions for flush doors with 180andordm; opening.

There is even an adjustable hinge which allows variances in manufacture to be accommodated, of value for instance where multiple hinges on large unwieldy panels lead to tolerances accumulating over unusual lengths.

Clearly for specialist enclosures many size variations are offered to suit everything from the smallest wall mounted housing through to the largest cabinet or even acoustic cabin.

Materials offered vary also with a black or chrome zinc die being most popular.

Alternatively stainless steel is available for many styles where ultimate strength or corrosion resistance is crucial.
